US emissions off track

More on the rise in US emissions in 2018 (see previous post here):






Getting behind makes the target harder to reach. Yes, coal is being replaced, yes EVs could make up 20% of total car sales by end 2021.   But more needs to be done.  Not much luck with that given Lord Cheeto and the Republicans.  It's likely emissions will fall sharply in 2019 because the US will have a recession.   Add the ongoing shuttering of coal power stations, the expansion of EV sales to 5% of total car sales, and it's easy to expect emissions will fall.  We'll see.
