Slavery in Australia

Our PM, Scott Morrison, says there was never slavery in Australia.  Meanwhile, in the UK, an episode of Fawlty Towers entitled Don't Mention the War, is banned then unbanned, because it's 'offensive' (missing the whole point of the episode).   A cartoon from Broelman, showing Basil Fawlty, Manuel, and Scroto;  and a picture from the Western Australian State Library, which Fakebook banned 'for nudity' then unbanned later.

Barnaby's chickens come home to roost.

Barnaby Joyce is the deputy Prime Minister, leader of the National (country) Party, one of the two parties in the ruling right-wing coalition government of Australia.  He has fallen foul of section 44 of the constitution, which forbids any member of the House or the Senate from being a dual citizen.  Turns out he's a New Zealand citizen as well as an Ozzie citizen.  The birds are kiwis, a flightless bird from NZ, which is also what Ozzies call their cousins from across the Tasman Sea.

The cartoon is from Broelman, who I thought had given up cartooning but I see is still on Twitter.

Lifestyles

The cartoon refers to The Cane Toad's designed-to-annoy comment that remote-community Aborigines live there for "lifestyle" reasons.

What a doos.

Hypocrisy

The so-called Liberal government of Australia is very hot on cutting benefits to the poor, on eviscerating Australia's free national health system, Medicare, while preserving tax write-offs and benefits for the wealthy.  It recently emerged that George Brandis, our Attorney-General, spent $1100 on a meal in London.  This is Broelman's take on this hypocrisy.
