Gab, gab, gab --- but do nothing

Updating this chart by O=C=O  (updated for 2023 data)

Gab, gab, gab.  All talk but no action.  Solemn promises to do something, followed by doing nothing.  Greenwashing, which persuades an increasingly anxious public that something is being done, when in fact it isn't.  Fake carbon offset schemes.  Lies, obfuscations, distractions.  While climate dissent is criminalised.   Meanwhile, right wing parties, in the US and Australia, want to stop deployment of renewables altogether.

And to make ourselves feel better, we gab, gab, gab.  And when I say 'we', I mean almost all of us.  For example, at no extra cost to ourselves, we could give up meat, cutting our emissions by 25%.  But we do not.

1.5 degrees to be reached 11 years sooner

From a toot by Professor Christopher May

The shortcomings of the COP series of meetings (and the failure of #ParisAgreement) have contributed to a shortening of the time by which we will reach 1.5c eleven years earlier.

So once we all got behind the Paris Agreements agenda on the #climatecrisis, things actually got worse.

I've said this before, but in the future (as our descendants grapple with #climatechange & its social disruption), our children's children will curse our political leaders for their lack of leadership & action(s)

The trend rate of increase in global prices has accelerated.
As it happens, we have already reached 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial temperatures,
if only temporarily (?)

And still we do too little to avert catastrophe.

Global warming off the charts

From a toot by Zack Labe

Wow, the last three months have really shattered the previous September to November temperature record for our planet...

Using data from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis at cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsa

Note that this is the anomaly relative to the 1981-2010 baseline.
Relative to the 1850-1900 baseline (i.e., pre-industrialisation),
temperatures are now up over 1.5 degrees.

Yet the latest COP meeting shows that we (mankind) will once again do nothing to reduce emissions.

COP28: yet another gabfest

 From a toot by O=C=O

If #GlobalWarming could be stopped just with discussing, earth should entirely frozen now ... #ClimateAction is necessary

Talk, talk, talk.  Lots of "we're committed" and "net zero by some far off date", but no action.  Just another pointless gabfest, designed to hoodwink the public.
