The plunging costs of renewables

From Information is Beautiful

A vertical bar chart compares percentage reductions in renewable energy and battery storage costs between 2010 and 2024. Battery storage experienced the largest price drop at 93%, followed by solar photovoltaic panels at 90%, concentrated solar power at 77%, onshore wind at 70% and offshore wind at 62%. All five technologies became substantially cheaper over 14 years, highlighting the increasing affordability of clean energy generation and storage. Batteries were once the weak link. Solar and wind were clean but couldn’t keep the lights on after dark or when the wind dropped.
Not any more.
Solar panels and battery storage have seen particularly spectacular reductions since 2010.
Battery storage is 93% cheaper than in 2010, making round-the-clock renewable power feasible and affordable.
Cheaper technology spreads faster, which makes it cheaper still.
That loop is now running in clean energy’s favour.
Cleaner electricity is no longer necessarily the expensive alternative. In many markets, it's the economic choice.
