The "purchasing managers' survey" (PMI), and similar business and consumer surveys, are among the earliest data points available for the most recent month. Australia's PMI gives much the same picture that PMIs from other countries give: economies are slowing. This survey is different from the AI Group survey, which has been running for much longer, but is much more volatile.
