It looks as if hurricane Irma will hit Miami over the weekend. It's the most intense Atlantic hurricane ever.
Here's a good explanation of why global warming has made hurricanes more intense. Miami is barely above sea level,
and already floods regularly from heavy rainfalls or high tides. The pictures below, from the
New York Times show how much development has taken place on what are essentially sand bars, and how vulnerable Miami is to catastrophe.
Yet the Florida Governor has
forbidden State bureaucrats from mentioning global warming, and Senator Marco Rubio is an
out and out denialist. In fact it is
hard to find any Republicans who are not denialists.
